Comic Creators for Freedom 2012

Photobucket

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead

Wednesday, January 11th is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. To participate, we formed the Comic Creators for Freedom– a group of over 100 comic book creators who volunteered our artistic talents to raise money and awareness for this cause. You may not know it, but there are currently 27 million enslaved people worldwide- more than double the number of enslaved Africans during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. UNICEF estimates that 1.2 million children every year are sold into slavery, most of it sexual. The US Department of Justice estimates 16,000 victims of human trafficking are brought into the United States every year. Unlike slavery in the past, what is happening today is happening in secret. It won’t end until awareness is raised, and people like you and me take a stand.

So here’s what we did: each creator contributed an original drawing of one of our own female characters, and combined them into a single wallpaper image! The wallpaper features characters from all over the web, including Girls with Slingshots, The Dreamland Chronicles, Kukuburi, Earthsong Saga, Looking for Group, Love and Capes, The Dreamer, and tons more! Donate today to download this unique, once-in-a-lifetime wallpaper.
The Donations Drive will last for two weeks, from Monday January 9th – 20th. All proceeds will be split evenly between Love 146 and Gracehaven House- two organizations working on rehabilitation of victims and prevention of this crime.

To learn more about the CCA visit www.comiccreatorsforfreedom. To learn more about the problem, visit http://love146.org/slavery. (Note: contains adult themes and actual accounts of sex slavery.)

Update Feb 17th, 2012

Hey all!

First off thanks so much for the recent comments and stuff!! especially the few emails i got asking when updates are and compliments and things!

Unfortunately, because I’m in school, updates aren’t regular (after April, i’m hoping to remedy this) And sadly enough, they might be far in between, just cause i’m in my final semester getting ready for gradshow, so I dont have much free time.

The next page is actually 98% done, but i’m waiting on some Blackfoot translating, so i can get the dialogue in the strip. Then there will be an update! yay! I’m thinking of starting up a FAQ page as well, cause i keep getting asked similar questions from people…

Anyways, Thanks again everyone for all the support!! You’re all awesome!!

Comic Creators For Freedom 2013!

I’m proud to say that I am participating in Comic Creators for Freedom for my second year!!  What is CCfF you ask?  Well let me tell you!

CCfF is a group of Comic Book Creators, who have come together, volunteering our artistic talents to raise money for the purpose of ending human trafficking in the world today. There are currently 27 million enslaved people worldwide- more than double the number of enslaved Africans during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. UNICEF estimates that 1.2 million children every year are sold into slavery, most of it sexual. The US Department of Justice estimates 16,000 victims of human trafficking are brought into the United States every year.

Webcomic Creators from all over the world are working together on a single drawing which will be available as a downloadable wallpaper for readers who donate to our fund raising drive! December 2nd-14th!
Want to participate?  Find out what you need to do to get involved here!

Each year, since CCfF has started, Comic Creators contribute their characters to build a themed wall paper!  There’s also extra goodies through certain creator’s campaigns if you donate through them! (I was unable to do so this year) Think of all the amazing exclusives you could see from your favourite comic artists!!  So please consider donating a little and get your own wallpaper for this year’s theme of “Awkward School Photos”! If you are unable to donate financially, consider passing the word along! The campaign for donations is HERE.

One person alone won’t accomplish much, but together… we can really make a difference.

CONTEST RESULTS!

I just want everyone to know that this was SUPER hard.  Every-Single-Entry was flipping amazing!  They were all so well thought-out and so creative! I had 4 judges and myself, and one of my judges even went and got feedback from her coworkers! Even they had a hard time choosing!

We judged entries based on over-all effect, not just “quality” per say, but the thought behind the entry, the creativity and the reactions we felt to each entry.

Again everyone that entered will be getting a .pdf of the final draft of Chapter 2!

AND NOW

Drumroll Please!

1st Place!

My RcW Contest Entry! by Nanihoo  :iconnanihoo:

All of us really loved this.  Not only are the frames themselves extremely well done, but the emotion and the story and theme behind the image is so powerful!! Subtle details too, like Haunt in the background are great! The sequential work is also very well done!!

2nd Place

Redcoat West by lostie815   :iconlostie815:

We loved the character expressions in this! Like what is that expression on Jasper’s face suppose to be? Is he annoyed, is he subtly glad? We liked the slight mysteriousness of it!  The composition of the whole image is amazing!  And the background and lighting is absolutely beautiful!

3rd Place

Mary's Entry by NatAsplund  :icontvorcheskiy-ma:
This is so creative and funny!  Right after I wrote the entries journal I went and checked the mail and received the actual doll. HILARIOUS! The creativity of the doll itself is great! But the whole entry process with the parcel was amazing!! (go check the sta.sh image for all the details)
